GSB 2014 Day 1 Txts

Two words describe the riding on Day 1: Fast and Furious (OK then 3 words).

The complete absence of wind meant the riders rallied unimpeded through the vast Mackenzie countryside and on into the sleepy town of Twizel.

A late afternoon threat of rain didn't dampen spirits as riders forged on towards Flannagans Pass. A gentle (NOT) climb up to 1225 metres. Riders then pop out overlooking Lake Ohau and the Ohau Range with views up the Dobson and Hopkins Rivers.

A fast descent followed by a gentle cruise around the shores of Lake Ohau saw most achieve good times and progress on Day 1.

Txt messages just a little brief and perhaps dry like the conditions. Expect Day 2 to show a bit more emotion as another big climb and perhaps some wet feet liven things up.

Of course a beer at the infamous Vulcan Hotel in St. Bathans awaits the thirsty and brave!
