GSB 2014 Day 2 Txts

A Day of Contrast(s)

The calm, windless peace of Day 1 was replaced by the steady drone of the wind. Tough going into it but at your back you could hit 50 kph!

The front runners saw rain while others mostly contended with the strong winds. Late in the day the rain stopped and the wind died down allowing many to make a last minute dash to clock up valuable kilometers.

The evening finished with a brilliant sunset over the mountains surrounding Wanaka.

A few issues with equipment saw some riders make a beeline for the bike shops of Wanaka. Hopefully all will be able to start again tomorrow.

For those within striking distance of Wanaka the biggest climb and highest point of the ride awaits. And after that comes the challenge of making the last sailing of the day of the Earnslaw across Lake Wakatipu. Not an easy task with many having clocked up 200+ kilometers today. The wise choice may be a good day out in the hills and a good rest in Queenstown for the morning sailing of the Earnslaw on Tuesday perhaps?
